Director of Norilsk Nickel plant detained as 3 people killed

MOSCOW, Feb 24 (PRIME) -- The director of an ore dressing plant of Russian metals giant Norilsk Nickel was detained, and the chief engineer and the director of the supervision department arrested after three people were killed in a roof collapse, the Investigative Committee said in a statement on Wednesday.

“A decision was made to detain the director of Norilsk Nickel’s ore dressing plant, who, as the investigation believes, was aware of the emergency and unsafe condition of the elements of the crushing unit’s building, but made no steps to suspend the operations that violated the industrial safety requirements,” the statement read.

The roof at the crushing department of Norilsk Nickel’s concentrator collapsed on February 20.
